At Joy Nursery & Primary School, even soap becomes a ministry. Through the Faithful Hands project, our learners are turning a basic hygiene product into a symbol of service, cleanliness, and Christian care for others.
Learning the Craft
Under the guidance of teachers and local artisans, pupils have learned how to make simple bar soap using safe, natural ingredients. The process is hands-on and exciting, teaching both science and stewardship.
Ingredients Used in Our Soap Making:
- Coconut oil or vegetable oil (moisturizer)
- Caustic soda (sodium hydroxide – the base)
- Water (for dissolving the soda)
- Natural fragrance (e.g., lemon, eucalyptus)
- Coloring (optional, for fun and appeal)
The students mix, mold, and package the soap themselves with careful supervision. They also label each bar with a message: “Clean Hands, Clean Hearts – 1 John 1:9.”
Soap with a Message
While the soap cleans the body, our students are reminded that God also cleanses our hearts. This project addresses hygiene challenges faced by many children in schools and homes — especially those without access to quality soap.

So far, our learners have donated soap bars to the school clinic, younger classes, and nearby children’s homes. Others have even suggested selling some bars to raise funds for school projects, combining entrepreneurship with compassion.
Scripture Reflection:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9
Clean hands are good, but a clean heart is even better — and only Jesus can do that.
